OCD Therapy for adults and teens
Do you find yourself regularly haunted by worries that begin with the phrase, “but what if?” Do you tend to get fixated on things for longer than you would like? Do you lose time to rituals that you feel like you need to complete perfectly in order to cultivate a sense of reassurance or safety? Do you generally struggle to tolerate feelings of uncertainty?
You might be struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a particular type of anxiety that manifests through vivid, intrusive, obsessional thoughts and repetitive behaviors that are intended to bring relief.
Therapy for OCD often includes helping our clients:
Learn to differentiate between obsessions, compulsions, common sense, and intuition
Increase self compassion and self care
Decrease the amount of time spent engaging in obsessions and compulsions
Tolerate uncertainty
Learn about and support any co-occurring eating issues or trauma
Cope with stress and life changes without increasing compulsive behavior
Become more mindful
Process how your OCD has impacted your life and relationships
INTEGRATIVE THERAPY FOR OCD: Supporting you as a whole person
Our therapists offer integrative therapy for obsessive compulsive disorder. We balance mindfulness and supportive talk therapy that helps you manage any underlying stress in your life with therapies that are specific to targeting the obsessive compulsive process.
Depending on your specific needs and preferences, your therapy might include:
-
Several of our therapists are trained in Inference Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a newer therapy for OCD that supports you in distinguishing between the OCD process and other kinds of thoughts and developing cognitive tools for disengaging from OCD urges and beliefs.
-
We understand that OCD is not the only thing going on in your life. Our therapists flexibly flow between evidence based practices that specifically target the OCD and spacious psychotherapy that facilitates healing for your whole person. We also make space for the intersection of OCD with other co-occurring circumstances, such as eating disorders, neurotype exploration, relationship concerns, pregnancy, and childhood trauma.
-
ERP is an organized, methodical, and evidence based strategy that targets and decreases compulsions. When we can reign in the compulsive behaviors, the fear and worry begins to quiet and you are able to more easily disengage from the obsessive compulsive loop.
-
Our therapists help you get in touch with your senses and somatic experience so you can get grounded in the present moment.
-
When appropriate, we help you and your family develop a comprehensive understanding of what OCD is, where it comes from, and how it might be showing up for you. We can also help families figure out how best to support loved ones when OCD is flaring, balancing compassion with healthy boundaries.
