Where EATING DISORDERS AND OCD INTERSECT

SOMETIMES THE EATING DISORDER IS PART OF A LARGER SCHEMA OF OBSESSIVE THOUGHTS AND RITUALIZED BEHAVIOR. WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU DISENTANGLE THESE THREADS AND FIND KIND, COMPASSIONATE SOLUTIONS THAT ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR NEEDS WHILE HELPING YOU EXPAND BEYOND THE WALLS OF THESE TWO CONDITIONS.

Our THERAPY Approach

Clients often come to us feeling desperate to break free but horrified at the prospect of change. We honor that tricky place and meet you there.

Eating disorders are often present in clients with pre-existing tendencies towards anxiety, careful routine, and aversion to change. These traits often coincide with obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors that can be part of the eating disorder, but also separate from it. In fact, approximately 1 in 6 people who meet criteria for an eating disorder also meet criteria for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

Our therapists help you explore your temperament, thought patterns, and the landscape of your anxiety. We also help you explore how engaging with compulsive behaviors and eating disorder behaviors might be protecting you from fears about yourself or the world.

Together, we gently help you clarify your goals for an aligned life and methodically and compassionately start to push against the rules that no longer serve you.
